“To heal those who suffered without care”

SARDAR JIWAN SINGH, FOUNDER

Indus History Banner

Prologue From a single act of Compassion, a legacy.

Founding Roots

Every great institution begins with a simple act of human compassion. For Indus Healthcare, that moment came nearly a century ago in Gujranwala, Pre-Partition Punjab, when one man's desire to heal transformed into a legacy that would touch countless lives across generations. Sardar Jiwan Singh lived a life of virtue and simplicity in pre-partition Punjab. While his family shaped copper and brass into utensils, his soul sought a different purpose: To cure people who had limited access to science-backed medical care. In an era when severe burns often meant certain death, Sardar Jiwan Singh created something extraordinary: a special red ointment called SUKHSAR. The British Government registered it in 1921, and it went on to save countless lives, from laborers to senior officials. This marked the beginning of a healing tradition that would span a century

First Generation of Modern Medicine

At a time when education was rare, Sardar Jiwan Singh ensured his children received the exposure needed to blend traditional wisdom with modern science. Among them was Sant, the youngest, who was recognized for his intelligence and dedication. Encouraged by his mentors, he pursued a career in medicine and later specialized in surgery, becoming Dr. Sant Prakash Singh.

A Commitment Beyond Service

Dr. Sant Prakash Singh and his wife, Dr. Kavita Sant, dedicated nearly over fifteen years to government service. In 1988, they made a defining choice: create something of their own. Starting with a simple clinic rooted in their community, they treated with skill, dignity, and care, every single time. This led to the establishment of Jiwan Nursing Home, one of the first organized healthcare facilities in Jalalabad, Punjab. This was the beginning of a family-led healthcare venture.

Growth Through the Next Generation

The small-town clinic served its community well, but the founders' family envisioned something larger, a healthcare system that could reach more people, deliver more advanced care, and set new standards. To initiate this vision of advanced healthcare, the family planned to branch out to other city. Large healthcare companies had not yet entered Mohali. For nearly a year, the family searched for investors and opportunities, but encountered closed doors everywhere. So they bootstrapped, building step by step, from scratch, with whatever resources they had. Finally, in 2001, guided by their elders and grounded in their values, Dr. Sant and Dr.. Kavita's sons took a leap of faith. They established Indus Hospital in Mohali, a modest multi-specialty hospital that marked the birth of Indus Healthcare. Over the past 25+ years, they expanded the practice from a single clinic into a network of hospitals, pharmacies, and labs across cities.

Core Evolution

What began as a survival-based effort gradually evolved into an ethical, quality-focused healthcare mission dedicated to serving the population with integrity, consistency, and trust.

The Top Moments

Chapters of a Hundred Years

Epilogue The road was anything but easy.

They were just a middle-class family trying to survive in a world of big hospitals and fierce competition. Financed by family, supported by well-wishers, and fuelled by belief, they pressed on - even when people said the rent of the building was worth more than the hospital itself.

But belief has its own strength. Slowly, others joined the journey doctors, nurses, and staff who stayed for decades, becoming part of the Indus family. Together, they built not just hospitals, but trust.

From that small beginning, through a difficult road, Indus grew - step by step, hospital by hospital. Today it stands as the Indus Healthcare Group: A symbol of resilience, compassion, and the quiet strength of ordinary people who refused to give up

From those humble beginnings, Indus steadily grew acquiring new land, building hospitals from the ground up, and gradually earning the trust of both patients and doctors.

Today, the Indus Healthcare Group stands as a testament to resilience, compassion, and the quiet strength of ordinary people who refused to give up.

What began as a small-town hospital has evolved into a network of hospitals, a pharmaceutical division, diagnostics, homecare services, and clinical research built not with grand ambitions, but with a simple promise: to empower each other to advance healthcare.
